Dock Shed, Canada Water
Dock Shed marks the first completed commercial building in British Land’s 53-acre masterplan for Canada Water – London’s first new town in over 50 years.
Designed by Allies and Morrison with interiors by Conran and Partners, the project reinterprets the area’s dockland heritage while setting a new benchmark for sustainable office development.
Behind its champagne-hued timber-inspired façade, Dock Shed opens into a seven-metre-high hybrid warehouse space combining lobby, café and social hub. Above, six storeys of expansive office floorplates are framed by outdoor terraces with protected views across London.
Dodds & Shute were proud to support Conran and Partners with procurement, sourcing an array of high-quality, sustainable pieces – from oversized bespoke timber benches to sculptural seating by de Sede and Faye Toogood.
Longevity and authenticity were central to the design, with each piece selected not only for aesthetic impact but also for responsible sourcing and ethical production.
The building incorporates XCarb recycled steel, repurposed raised access flooring and reclaimed window frames, together saving around 400 tonnes of embodied carbon. Inside, tactile rugs, verdant planting and natural finishes bring warmth to the industrial architecture, while custom woven installations by Art Story use sisal rope, cotton and carved timber to soften and define the generous volumes.
Dock Shed embodies the spirit of Canada Water’s transformation: rooted in history, built for community, and designed for the future.
